Hello [firstname,fallback=]

Spending Time in Hong Kong with Premier Holidays 2022

Hong Kong is often seen as just a stopover destination for travellers en route to the Far East or Australia but there are many reasons to factor in a longer stay as part of your trip.

Our friends at Premier Holidays have put together five fabulous 2022 itineraries, each combining a stay in Hong Kong with a selection of destinations around the world to enable you to properly discover this fascinating city rather than simply passing through. Even better, they are offering special deals if you book before the end of April

Why you’ll Love Hong Kong

As the award winning journalist and global travel authority Peter Jon Lindberg of Condé Nast skillfully puts it:

“Life in Hong Kong transcends cultural and culinary borders, such that nothing is truly foreign and nothing doesn’t belong.”

As a former British territory, for a fusion of east meets west there's nowhere better than Hong Kong. Offering an intoxicating mix of the very old and strikingly new, soaring skyscrapers sit cheek by jowl with the ancient Chinese markets and traditional junks bobbing about in the harbour.

Whether you opt to explore the tiny street stalls and smoky temples, experience sweeping views of the city from Victoria Peak or aboard the Star Ferry, indulge in some retail therapy amongst the curio shops or chic malls, you'll find no shortage of things to see and do. And there is no shortage of cool coffee stops for a quick pick-me-up on route.

To help you get your bearings quickly, Premier Holidays offer a great Old Town Central & Beyond Walking Tour. This afternoon tour begins in Central for a tram ride. Stroll Bonham street and Cat Street with its antique shops and art galleries; see Man Mo Temple, Hollywood Road's strange mixture of shops and visit a cafe well-loved by locals.

Whilst you may be drawn to Hong Kong for the iconic skyline, bright lights and bustling urban areas, it's worth noting that Hong Kong is actually 70% green space with lots of opportunities to reconnect with nature.

There are plenty of hiking trails that will allow you to dip out of city life and enjoy breathtaking scenery so it’s worth bringing the right shoes. The Dragon's Back and The Lung Ha Wan Country Trail are suitable for families or for something more challenging, Sharp Peak Hiking Trail sits inside Sai Kung East Country Park and takes in stunning beaches with soft sands.

Hong Kong is also home to more than 250 islands where you can discover a different side to the city.  Scattered sandy beaches, seafood restaurants and car-free bike trails are just a short ferry hop away. Lamma Island and Peng Chau are both great options for a laid back day trip.

You might also want to factor in a day trip to Macau (or Macao). It's just an hour's leisurely boat trip away or take the opportunity to traverse the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, the world's longest (55km!) sea bridge which spans the Pearl River Delta.

Macau was a Portuguese colony for more than 400 years and you can experience the unique combination of rich Chinese culture and Portuguese heritage. Although famous as Asia’s gaming capital, there is much more to Macau than casinos as recognized by its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Do try the Macanese cuisine. Possibly the original fusion food, the blend of both Portuguese and Chinese ingredients is virtually exclusive to Macau and a rare treat yet to be discovered globally.

When it comes to dining, you'll find Hong Kong is a real foodie's paradise, with almost every kind of world cuisine served up. Feast on contemporary and creative Dim Sum, try out tasty street food, escape the crowds at hidden cafes, discover stunning eateries for art lovers or, dine with the stars at Hong Kong's top Michelin-starred restaurants.

This vibrant city is home to all the best experiences - from cultures ancient and modern to vistas natural and urban, and flavours local and international.

To whet your appetite, see below for five fabulous itineraries, each combining a stay in Hong Kong with a selection of destinations around the world. These are just suggestions.
